Part Three of the "Top Ten Influential albums of my life" is being written as Ken tunes up his drum set. We're currently in the studio recording our first album titled What I didn't Tell You. Look for it to hit the shelves soon. In the mean, download all our "scrap" mp3's on the website, since these won't be available after the cd is released. That way, when we make it big, you can black mail us with our original material. Anyway, here goes number 3.

Rage against the machine

This was the first album RAGTM with Epic records. I was a senior in high school. Memories of listening to this record on my way to Daytona beach always bring smiles to my face. This music was a fusion of rap and rock/metal that i'd never heard before. Sure, at the same time there were bands like Bio Hazard who were doing the Rap Metal thing, but Rage was the real deal. They were definitely not pretending.

RAGTM inspired me to think in a more rhythmic way. Not to say that Tom Morello isn't an amazing lead guitarist, the opposite is true. However, RAGTM's music is like listening to a wall of rhythm. Everything is rhythm, down to the rap styling of Zack de la Rocha. Of course, even without the music, RAGTM would be something to listen to. There social and political views are something not often worn like a badge. When listening to RAGTM, you understand exactly where they are coming from. The pose their views in the most eloquent ways. Their words have truly inspired and changed me, for the better.

until the next time, be well

Part 2 of the 10 most influential albums of my life.

August and Everything After -- The Counting Crows

To this day i still listen to tracks from this cd at least once a week. Counting Crows are one of those bands that come along once in a lifetime. "Anna Begins" is one of the greatest songs ever written. The emotional portrait painted by Adam Duritz in this song has long influenced me in my attempts of being a lyricist. I remember hearing the song write after breaking up with a girl, who actually became the subject of the our song "Of lost love and broken trust". It amazed me that The Counting Crows had put into music and words the exact emotion I was feeling at that point in my life.

This album taught me that converying emotion through music makes a much stronger impact than relying soley on technique.

be well.

I've decided to write a series of blogs about the 10 most influential albums in my life. Interestingly enough, only a few of these albums would make my 10 best list. Also, please note that these are in no particular order.

...And Justice for All - Metallica

I remember laying on my bed and playing metroid on Nintendo and listening to this album over and over and over again. I literally wore the cd out. The technique and pure talent that were evident on this album inspired me to become a better player. Songs like "Blackened", "Harvester of Sorrow", and "...And Justice For All" gave me a new perspective on playing. It was almost like listening to a symphony of aggression. James Hetfield would play these "acoustic" (really an electric guitar without distortion) parts that transformed into an extremely textured and heavy guitar harmony. I was in awe.

Musically, this album showed me that heavy doesn't always mean faster. This album was my first introduction to Metallica. I subsequently went and purchased the entire catalogue.

Until the next time, be well.

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone happy holidays. This has been an interesting year for me in terms of music. Less than 12 months ago, I had no idea that I'd be playing in a band again. Now, music has once again consumed me and brought different perspective to my life.

be well

So, I went to lakeland yesterday and saw a whole bunch of faces from the past.

I was there for a going away party for one of my best friends. He is leaving for new jersey to go to law school, I wish him the best.

At the party i bumped into an old friend who started up a band in lakeland, check them out at www.millhoppreband.com. They have an interesting sound, i think you'll enjoy it!

be well
